Upgrade and Migration - Feature Road Map

Upgrade and Migration - FeatureRoad Map
SAP  suggested 3 Paths for migration to SAP BW4/HANA depending on your existing landscape as shown by SAP below :

1)  New /Customer(Installation) - In this option we install new system or ready to do Fresh Start for SAP BW4HANA.

2)  Classical Migration - In this option we upgrade or update existing/original SAP BW System to release supported by SAP HANA (if required) using SUM, then  we migrate traditional database (DB like Oracle, DB2)to SAP HANA using classical heterogeneous migration method using SWPM (Software Provisioning Manager ).

Note : Lets Assume my Client is using SAP BW, and already Migrated their Database(DB2/Oracle) to SAP BW 7.5 On HANA. Those Clients can directly Upgrade their SAP BW On HANA System to SAP BW4HANA.

3) Alternative Deployment Scenario -  New installation of SAPBW4HANA and  transform an existing data from Various BW Systems to SAP BW4HANA by performing (selective) data migration(SLT - SAP Landscape Transformation).

Ø Customer running a large distributed system landscape can benefit from SAP BW4HANA Capabilities without having to migrate the entire system landscape to SAP Simple Finance.

Ø In the Central Deployment scenario Carious source System can be connected to an SAP BW4HANA  add-on systems that acts as a Central System.

Ø SAP SLT (SAP Landscape Transformation ) Replication Server connects to these systems. It Can be installed as a separate system or on top of any of the source or Central System.

Key Points
For existing Customers on SAP BW 7.x Powered by HANA, must have already benefited from performance improvements, reduced data layers and simplifications based on the consolidation of modeling objects. Also SAP BW 7.5 will keep on supporting further , going forward SAP BW4HANA may receive more upcoming innovations and developments as well such as further innovations like simplified Big data access or more modern UX.
For Existing Customers with older version BW 3.x (DB -MSSQL,Oracle,DB2) can upgrade to SAP BW 7.5 On HANA and then add-on further to BW4HANA or have an option for fresh green field implementation depending on the use case. For customers BW 7.3 or 7.4 , SAP recommends to upgrade to BW 7.5 and then apply the add-on for further moving to BW4HANA..

Upgrade path for existing SAP BW customers?

If the Existing customer is using old BW system with a large number of legacy objects BW 3.x, especially when there are a large amount of objects which are no longer used. For this type of customers can create a new SAP BW/4HANA system and selectively move the objects..

The upgrade approach is a three step process:

1. Upgrade to SAP BW 7.5 SP04 on HANA. This is a straightforward upgrade/migration and will leave all the objects intact.
2. Object Conversion. Unused objects can be deleted, and legacy objects (InfoProviders, DSOs etc.) can be migrated to BW/4HANA objects via a set of semi-automated tools. This can be done in a Big Bang approach, or gradually.

3. Enable SAP BW/4HANA mode. This is a mini-upgrade which locks in the BW/4HANA mode, and deletes all the legacy code, and enables BW/4HANA-specific functionality.
